We all want to sell more and make more money.  The question is how do we do this without breaking the bank?  That’s where our website comes in.  Most of us already have websites.  However, what we don’t think about is how effective is the website and the words that are on it?  I find this is a “forest through the trees” scenario.  I’ve looked at my own website so much, I have no idea what I’m actually seeing any more.  So, I needed some outside advice.

Here are some of my favorite tips from the book:

Write copy that is easy to read.  I know that if I visit a website that looks like an encyclopedia, I’m probably going to leave.  Who has time to read all of that?  Instead, present one idea per paragraph with meaningful and informative subtitles.  Use bullet points and highlighting to make it eye catching and easy to scan.

Before you writing anything at all:  Know your target audience, know your objective and know your product or service.  I found it helpful to sit down and take some notes on these things and brainstorm for a while.  The original answers were quick and obvious, however, the more meaningful answers took a little time to develop.

The framework that Maria presents is easy to follow and once you break it down, incredibly effective.  Answer these questions for your business and write down the answers: 1.  What’s the problem 2.  Why hasn’t the problem been solved? 3. What’s possible? 4. What’s different now?  5.  How to take action.  Inject emotion, add  credibility and some amazing adjectives and you have a recipe for a web site that will wow.

4.  Induce Action
